DECEMBER 2009

The 12 & Under 11 Victorian Longcourse Championships were held on December 19th & 20th at MSAC.  Our swimmers did our Club proud, finishing 7th out of 46 clubs.

The following were our successful Medallists:
JOHN OOI (11YO Boys) 
Gold Medal - 200 Freestyle & 200 Individual Medley
Silver Medal - 200 Breaststroke

 LUSHAVEL STICKLAND (11YO GIRLS)
Gold Medal - 200 Individual Medley, 200 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle
Silver Medal - 100 Backstroke, 200 Backstroke, 200 Breaststroke, 100 Breaststroke

Lush also took our the 11 Year Old Swimmer of the Meet.

Swimwear Rules Update
All swimmers please take note of the new rule changes to competition swimwear effective as of 1 November 2009.
As per Swimming Victoria's Competition By-laws 1.5 the only swim suits that competitiors are allowed to wear from 1 November 2009 at Swimming Victoria approved competition are those approved by FINA or qualify as 'traditional' suits.  Click on link for futher information.  Rule Changes

2009 VICTORIAN OPEN WATER CHMPIONSHIPS/HAZELWOOD OPEN WATER
Saturday 17th saw the running of the 2009 Open Water Championships at the Hazelwood Pondage in Traralgon.  Ashleigh Rich was Footscray's only swimmer, competing in the 10-12 Girls 1 Km Category, in fairly chilly conditions.  Ashleigh finished in 2nd place with a time of 16:53.1.

100TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS - GOES OFF WITH  BANG!!

Saturday night, 10th October, saw 500 past and present members or our club come together to celebrate our 100th Birthday.  What a fantastic night had by all.  Congratulations to everyone involved in putting the event together, well done to all competitors, and thank you to all officials and guests who attended and made the night one to remember.   Have a peek at all the pics from the night.

METRO WEST DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS - 14,15,21,& 22 NOVEMBER

Entries for the District Championships close with the club on Sunday 25th October.  Or post to Carolyn Smith at 28 Hotham Cres Hoppers Crossing before 23rd October.  Cheques payable to Footscray Swimming & Water Polo Clubs.

2009 METRO WEST 7-10 ENCOURAGEMENT HEATS

Three of our swimmers competed at the 7-10 Encouragement Meet on Saturday 10th October at Werribee,    Emily Cockshott, Charlee Liddell and Lachlan Rich. They all swam very well. Well Done for representing our club.  Lachlan and Charlee made it through to the Finals at MSAC on November 15th in 50M Freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly.

2009 NATIONAL SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS, 13-18 SEPT

Lushavel wins Gold Medal in 50m Freestyle in a sizzling time 28.89 (new Aust Record), Gold in 50m Breaststroke 38.28, Bronze in 200m Individual Medley 2:38.51 and Bronze in 4x50M 200 I.M. Girls Relay.

2009 VICTORIAN AGE SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Footscray Team finishes 15th out of 68 teams.
Lushavel wins 7 Gold & 1 Silver Medal.
Khoal Le wins 1 Gold, 1 Silver & 1 Bronze Medal.

THE 19TH WESTERN REGION SWIMMING CARNIVAL
The Western Region Swimming Carnival was held on Sunday 2nd August.  It was an outstanding success, with some great competition.  Thank you to all the swimmers, officials, clubs, parents and spectators for making the day such a wonderful one.   Full results  2009 Results
